Life in Surgery: Reflections on Health and Living

Your dose of life and health..

Welcome, and thank you for visiting.

I am a surgeon with more than 25 years of experience in doing surgery, especially whatever it is that liver transplant surgeons do for a living. Over the years, I learnt that medicine is not only about procedures, diagnoses, and treatment plans—it is also about stories, resilience, hope, and the human spirit. This blog is my way of sharing those lessons, reflections, and insights beyond the walls of the hospital.

Health, Healing, and the Liver

Liver disease and liver transplantation occupy most of my daily clock. These are subjects that often feel overwhelming to patients and families, filled with uncertainty and difficult decisions. Through this blog, I hope to make these topics easier to understand—whether discussing prevention, treatment options, transplantation, recovery, or the latest developments in care. My aim is to provide clear, thoughtful information that helps patients, caregivers, and the wider public feel more informed and empowered.

Beyond Medicine: Life Experiences

Life is larger than medicine alone.

This space also explores the people, places, moments, and experiences that shape the way we think and live. From journeys to meaningful encounters, from quiet observations to memorable images, I share reflections on the world beyond the operating room. Often, these experiences teach lessons just as valuable as those learned in clinical practice.

Join the Journey

This blog brings together two worlds: health and life. If you are here to learn, reflect, or simply explore, I hope you find something meaningful in these pages. I do not wish to disclose my identity – as it makes easier for employers to track and surveil. There is a considerable amount of pleasure in remaining ‘incognito’. I can be reached at burstabdomen@gmail.com. And its not about me- its about YOU the reader.

A few words about the title – it has stuck with me since my post graduation days- meaning a clinical condition as well as words coming forth from an ill-contained tummy
