Ambling through hallways…

towards the wormhole..

Corridors of hotels/motels/bed & breakfasts/lodges/retreats/resorts/inns/taverns/caravenserai and likes bear footprints of travelers and imprints of their luggage wheels.

The lobby hogs attention but the corridor also speaks to those who wish to listen.

This corridor teleports the ambler to an era past its glory and tries and keeps the visitor trapped in history.

The passageway makes the walker feel like royalty – a clever ploy to make him splurge?

Some recreate the heritage of the city so that the monuments and forts linger on in the weary boarders mind when he retires after a hectic touristy day.

The business hotels mean business- their matrix implores the resident to scoot into their cells without spending a single moment under surveillance

Some have clean curved walls. They let the visitor paint a picture of his own imagination. Others have surprises lurking around unexpected turns.

Staircases are not common place -an invite for the boarder to exercise and not give in to the temptation of an elevator.

Some speak their own language – the onus is on the wanderer to understand.

Do the corridors have to be lined by walls all around?

This corridor begs to differ that a wall is essential to qualify as a corridor in a hotel. Why can’t the boarder enjoy free space?

One motel corridor throws a bird at the unsuspecting strolling guest.

The designers of this corridor in Taunggyi are mindful of the tired traveler- providing them with some resting space.

The best type of corridors are those which let interactions blossom between the strollers.

We would love to know of your experiences with hallways- so often used and so rarely remembered.

Outstanding!!!Never put a thought on hallways before and now that you say it will observe them closely but will I have same thoughts that the writer has ,doubt it ,,for that you need imagination and sensitiveness I guess

    1. Thank you. Your thoughts and impressions may be completely different but one thing is for sure – it will be difficult to ‘unsee’ hallways henceforth. :)
