Music in the Park

SPIC MACAY lives up to its reputation at it’s milestone event in Nehru Park.

The Music has been playing in the Park 21 years long and hopefully will continue doing so – may be with machines playing through humans at a not so distant future.

Even invisible man cannot resist the temptation of listening at the comfort of ample open space though his shoes are a giveaway

Ashwini Bhide Deshpande started off the three day homage to Indian classical music.

She sang about the transition of seasons and the beginning of Chaitra– Chait Maas Bole Re Koyaliya Ho Rama- the song floated carefree in the evening breeze.

Rindana Rahasya accompanied in tanpura – an accomplished vocalist herself.

The audience remained mesmerized as expected

A short break provided an opportunity to munch – and the poor hawker was immediately mobbed

Second half presented Ambi Subramaniam, Akram Khan, N Radhakrishnan and Ganesh Natarajan – all accomplished performers in their own right.

Ambi started with Mahisasurmardini in Adi Taal – proved worthy of his title as the ‘king of Indian Classical Violin’. Father L Subramaniam listened with intent and pride as Ambi’s fingers weaved a trance.

Ambi immersed himself in strings

The interaction between the quartet reflected in synchronized harmony

The eyes sang..

The maestro L Subramaniam entered the arena- and everyone listened

The men who programmed the music and channeled it to the hearts of the listeners – an unsung performance

Held in rapt attention as if turned to statue by a singing Midas

Can sound be caught and shown through words and pictures?

Can the smart phone not leave us in peace for an evening ?

Music in the Park soothes the anxious city soul and calms the modern day fidgety mind
