Headstrong
Headstrong is a brief reflective poem that questions conquest, courage and achievement before arriving at an unexpected realisation. Drawing on medieval imagery, it explores the journey inward rather than the victories won along the way.
Headstrong
Art thou sailed the seas?
Conquered the mighty land?
Battled the dragon dreaded,
Poisoned with dirty fangs?
Art thou been strong?
Art thou been gone long?
For when I came back to my abode
All I found was me being headstrong
About the Poem
Headstrong reflects on the difference between external triumphs and internal battles. Through images of voyages, dragons and distant lands, the poem asks whether life’s greatest challenge lies not in conquering the world but in confronting one’s own pride and convictions.
