The New Delhi Open Chess Tournament witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of players from across the country at Thyagraj Stadium on 1 December 2024. The first edition of the New Delhi Open International FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament marked an exciting addition to Delhi’s growing chess calendar.

A Grand Beginning for the New Delhi Open Chess Tournament

Thyagraj Stadium in Delhi was the venue for the first New Delhi Open International FIDE Rated Rapid Chess Tournament.

Sara Foundation and Chess4India.org organized the event, bringing together players across different age groups and rating categories.

More Than 700 Players Participate

More than 700 chess players participated enthusiastically in the two-day tournament, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the venue.

The event reflected the growing popularity of competitive chess in India and provided an excellent platform for both experienced and emerging players to compete under FIDE-rated conditions.

Final Standings

Grandmaster Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury secured the first position in the final ranking crosstable after nine rounds, finishing as the top-ranked player of the tournament.
