Shadowing Gandhi…
Some journeys are measured not in kilometres but in ideas. This is a traveller’s attempt to follow Mahatma Gandhi through the places he lived, worked and ultimately became part of history.

The Original Shadow
The original shadow…
If it wasn’t for the persistence of this man—
Gandhi might not be in Bihar.
Ever!

Gandhi Smriti, Delhi
Burst Abdomen visited Mahatma’s abodes across India.
It started with Gandhi Smriti—erstwhile Birla House in Delhi.
He was shot dead in Birla House.
Interestingly, in all descriptions within Birla House, the assassin is mentioned simply as an “assassin”—without any reference to the individual’s identity.

The Wire
The “wire.”
No matter what—
It is not easy to follow his footsteps.

A Simple Way of Living
His rooms are similar in layout and design across cities.
Wherever he went—
A study desk.
A cosy pillow.
And a mattress followed.

Patna
Remains of Gandhi Shivir in Patna, where he stayed in 1947.
The Gandhi Sangrahalaya in a nearby campus.

Mani Bhavan, Bombay

Mani Bhavan in Bombay, where Mr Gandhi spent a considerable time working and fasting, is spick and span.
Keeping with the sheen of the megapolis.
A Library of Ideas

The functional library gives an insight into what Gandhi read.
Which eventually shaped the course India took through time.
Thoughts Behind Walls
An enclosed space tries to keep the thoughts of the “thinkers” inside.
This is to prevent free thoughts from spilling onto the streets.
And corrupting the minds of WhatsApp University graduates.

A Window into His World
Mani Bhavan provides a peek into his world.
And his associates.

The Other House
Close to his Bombay abode, Jinnah House languishes.
It is labelled as “enemy property.”
Whose enemy is it?
What is the enmity?
What is the outcome of the animosity?
No pundits dare answer till date!

Walking Away
Modern India walks away nearby.
Smart.
Suave.
Bold.
On the broad shoulders of Gandhi.

He Lives On…

He lives on…
